Postpartum Protocol

Protocol for new mothers.

Protocol duration: 12 weeks

Taking a shower has become an expedition, and a coffee in silence the win of the day. You eat standing up, sleep in three-hour stretches, and the kilos won't budge no matter how hard you try. While nutritionists and trainers repeat that we all have the same 24 hours and that good organisation makes time for meals and workouts, only one thought runs through your head: "These people clearly don't have kids."

Don't worry, we do, and that's exactly why we know classic weight-loss regimes fall apart for mothers. We also know how confusing it is when one moment you tell yourself your looks aren't a priority right now, and the next you cry because you have to get out of your tracksuit and pyjamas and realise everything else is too small. When you don't recognise the person in the mirror, and you choose clothes not for your style but for what hides the extra weight best. And when you're stuck between the old and the new version of yourself and don't know how to reconcile them.

That's why we put together a simple, sustainable and effective protocol that brings your body, hormones, skin, hair and energy back into balance.

First pillar: medicine

After giving birth, the body
needs rebuilding first.

Estrogen and progesterone drop sharply after birth, the thyroid changes its function in some women, and iron, vitamin D and B12 stores are depleted, especially after a difficult birth or if you are breastfeeding. Hence the fatigue that sleep doesn't fix, hair loss and mood swings.

That's why the council analyses your lab results first and only then makes a plan: a doctor looks at the values and therapy, a biochemist follows how they move from one check-up to the next, and a dietitian and a master of nutrition turn that into meal plans that rebuild the body instead of draining it.

Internal statistics: when the diet is built around lab results, weight loss is as much as 30% faster than on a classic diet.

Second pillar: dietetics

Not much time to cook?
You don't need it.

The biggest problem after giving birth isn't willpower, it's time. So the menu is built from quick recipes, seasonal ingredients, practical meals you cook for 2-3 days, ready-made supermarket options and traditional dishes the whole family can share.

A food is too expensive? You mark it and we don't use it. Don't like cauliflower? It's not on your menu. Don't want exotic ingredients? We skip them. No time to cook lunch? Everything is put together meal by meal around you, which makes it far more doable than the usual template diets.

Internal statistics: 94 out of 100 Atika clients reach their monthly goal without giving up on the plan.

Three cycles

You log symptoms and meals in the app. The team sees every entry.

Every7days

A check-in on symptoms and intake. If something isn't working, we change it.

Every14days

Seven new menus, matched to your recovery.

Third pillar: psychology

Everyone revolves around the baby.
We revolve around you.

Sleep is broken, the day has no structure, and stress piles up because there is no moment that is just yours. In the app we track sleep, energy and stress, so you can see what drains them most and where there is room for a break, however short.

You also get concrete methods: breathing exercises for when tension rises, logging stress to spot the triggers, a gratitude journal and moments for yourself, however brief. And when food is used to calm down, we work on it without guilt and without bans.

Internal statistics: mums who log their sleep and stress notice sooner what drains their energy most.

The app

An app that remembers for you.

  • logs your energy through the day
  • tracks sleep and night wakings
  • logs appetite and hunger
  • measures the nutrients in every meal
  • tracks symptoms week after week
  • reminds you about fluids and meals
Methodology

Why 12 weeks?

Phase 1, weeks 1 to 4. We set up meals that are quick to make and easy to eat between feeds, with enough protein, iron and fluids. If you are breastfeeding, intake is adjusted to lactation and there is no deficit. After a caesarean section we pay extra attention to recovery and symptoms such as constipation and bloating.

Phase 2, weeks 5 to 8. Once eating is steady, we work on body composition at a pace your body can handle. If you are breastfeeding, weight loss is slower, and that's intentional, because a sudden deficit reduces lactation. Activity is introduced only once your doctor approves it.

Phase 3, weeks 9 to 12. The focus is on sustainability: meals cooked ahead, energy that has to last all day and habits that stay once the protocol ends. You do the follow-up tests your doctor orders, because iron and vitamin D deficiency are common after giving birth.

When you can start and when you can train, we assess at the consultation.

If Atika is known for anything, it's directness and honesty. That's why as many as 30% of introductory consultations end with us declining to work together. If your goal isn't in our domain, we refer you to someone else. If what you want isn't achievable from a medical standpoint, we explain what is. Our way of working doesn't fit what you want? We tell you openly. Neither of us wants to part ways unhappy.

So we ask you to have a free consultation before you buy, to find out whether we're a good match.

Frequently asked questions

No. A quality, varied diet with calories adjusted for breastfeeding can only improve how you feel. The protocol is run by a medical team that has worked with dozens of breastfeeding mothers every week for more than ten years, and only what harms your health is removed from the diet.

With healthy eating, the sooner the better. For training, the general guidance is about 2 months after a vaginal birth and 5 to 6 months after a caesarean section, but the final decision is your gynaecologist's.

The shortest possible protocol is 8 weeks, and 12 is recommended.

We need lab results, because iron and vitamin D deficiency and changes in thyroid function are common after giving birth. If you don't have them, we tell you exactly which ones to do.

The protocol is built 100% around you, which means every diagnosis, therapy and need of your body is taken into account. Still, the protocol does not make diagnoses and is not a replacement for treatment and therapy.
